Let’s not get confused over words. A lot of people today are using words to confuse us, but we’re confident that you’re not going to buy it. You  defeated an attempt to corrupt organic produce when you put enough pressure on government to "not allow" sewage sludge to be used as fertilizer on certified organic produce.

You won a major round in the continuing fight to preserve our health standards. But please remember, it was only one round and the fight against those who would profit from the confusion of words continues. Your victory has a 3-year time limit and it will be re-introduced again in 2001. Count on it!

So let’s keep it clear and simple. Let’s understand just exactly what we mean by the word "natural" and what it’s all about when we add the word "healing" right behind it.

Natural healing began when Hippocrates first cured cancer with garlic. The garlic didn't burn the cancer - and the body it was growing in. It didn't slice parts of that body away adding another trauma - that of healing the therapy. It certainly didn't poison the body in the hope that the cancer would die before the body did.

The garlic was Hippocrates way of helping the body help itself, and that’s what we mean by natural healing.

Your body heals itself all the time. How about the finger you cut last year? Is it still bleeding? Does it still hurt? You probably can’t even find a scar and you may not even remember cutting yourself.

Your body healed itself and that’s the only way it can happen. Your body always heals itself and it does it best when you help it by giving it the nourishment that is directed toward building your marvelously effective immune system. It heals second best when left alone to do the job with materials at hand, and it struggles along poorly - sometimes even failing - when it needs to overcome poisons which are placed in the way.

Some of these come from the environment and they’re called bacteria, micro-organisms, germs, toxins, etc. And some come from well meaning, but misguided drug therapy which places further stress on your immune system.

Consider antibiotics. Yes, antibiotic therapy kills the invading disease makers but it also kills important digestive bacteria. This sets the body up for another attack, because you’re no longer getting needed nutrition from the food you eat and the supplements you take. Your not eliminating properly because your colon is no longer working as well. Your digestive system is struggling because the natural flora it needs is gone. That means your immune system is under-nourished and under-active. It’s a chain of circumstances, one part working with and functioning because of another.

The people who practice natural healing do so with an understanding of the body’s ability to heal itself. When unpleasant symptoms are present, the naturopath knows that it is the body that has turned on its disease fighting mechanism to make itself well again. So it is with fever to burn the rascals out; coughing - to rid the body of mucus; and vomiting or diarrhea - to purge the poisons which are robbing your body of health and well being.

On the other hand, a drug therapist approaches the same symptoms from the viewpoint that the body is broken and needs to be fixed. This leads to the logical conclusion that to repair the body, it’s necessary to "kill" the symptoms.

A naturopath may address symptoms, but only to make you more comfortable; the overall naturopathic approach is to remove the cause. That’s when the body gets well, really well, and not just feeling better in wait of another attack of the same or similar problem.

"Students who use natural methods to fight colds and flu experience more time in between those attacks until the time comes when it is rare for these common aliments to get a foothold in their bodies. When on rare occasions, a 'bug' does penetrate their immunity armor, they 'naturally' reinforce immunity with Herbs That Work! Echinacea and Super Cider. Where others suffer days and weeks, our students experience only mild discomfort usually gone within an hour or two. Their bodies heal themselves and that means they're not set up waiting for the next attack."

Your body wants to be healthy and works toward that goal. It needs your help to provide certain nutritional building blocks which it can work with. If it doesn't get them, it will use what it has at hand. It can become confused when it has nothing but junk to work with and there’s even a chance that auto-immune diseases (those in which the body attacks itself) can begin out of that confusion.

Cancer cells are said to be "confused" cells looking for something to do. They no longer understand their designed function and go off making up their own plan.

Natural healing is simple and pure in its approach to body problems. It relies on building, enhancing and giving power to the natural growth and repair cycles of your body. Drug therapy works to counter those natural flows. In the interest of killing the problem, it interferes with the natural harmony of your body and its functions.

Hippocrites advised physicians "to do no harm". No contest! Natural healing wins.
